#poem – nowhere else does the rain smell the same –

nowhere else does the rain
smell the same
so when I hear that song
and remember the rain
I know I was in Plymouth
with my transistor radio
sitting in a shelter
near the sea
and it was 65
just back from St Ives
and Donovan had caught something
in between his words
his story, not mine
but you sort of felt
we were all in a gang
and he did
what he did best
and I walked
and got wet
and somewhere timeless
something good
got better
